Special Events

Sunday, November 2: All Saints’ Sunday - 9:15 a.m. - “Our Saints” celebration in the churchyard

Sunday, November 9: The Joyful Noise Praise Band leads worship, 10:00 a.m.

Sunday, November 9: Evensong led by our clergy and choir in the church, 5:00 p.m.

Sunday, November 23: Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service at Christ Church, 7:00 p.m.

Wednesday, November 26: Thanksgiving Eucharist in the church, 8:30 a.m.

Thursday, November 27: Community Thanksgiving meal in the parish hall - bring a dish to pass, 1:00 p.m.

 

Worship

Sundays: Holy Eucharist - 8:00 a.m. Rite I - 10:00 a.m. Rite II - Join us for social hour after both services.

 

Daily Services of Morning Prayer are held at 8:00 a.m. in the chapel (7:30 a.m. on Sunday).  This 20-minute service will help to start your day with God.

 

Wednesdays: Holy Eucharist - 8:30 a.m. in the chapel.  We remember great people of faith.  Come to a social hour following the 8:30 service.

 

Prayer

Healing Service: First Sunday at 4:00 p.m. (Sep 7) in the chapel.  Join us for prayer, praise, preaching, with laying on of hands or anointing to release the healing power of Jesus in our lives.  Contact: Fr. Sam Abbott (tel. 547-9555).

 

Prayer Circle meets every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Nash Room to intercede for needs of the parish, community, and world in the context of evening prayer; organizes vigils as needed.  Contact:  Alton VanCleef (tel. 547-8756).

 

Prayer Chain allows home-bound members to participate in the ministry of intercession.  Contact: Irene Parker (tel. 547-8275) to make a request or join the team.

 

Education

Church School Begins every Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in the parish hall, for youngsters (K-12).  For information, contact Linda VanCleef (tel. 547-8756).  Church School starts up again on September 14th.

 

Lectionary Bible Study meets every Sunday at 9:00 a.m. in the nursery lounge to study the collect, lessons and psalm appointed for the day.  Led by Fr. Sam, 547-9555.

 

Men’s Ecumenical Bible Study/Prayer Group meets Wednesdays at 6:00 a.m. in the parish hall.  Contact:  Alton VanCleef (tel. 547-8756).

 

Sisters in Christ: an ecumenical women’s Bible study - meets Wednesday mornings 10:00-11:30 a.m. in the French Library of Christ Church.  Currently studying the Book of Isaiah.  All are welcome.  Child care is provided.  Contact: Karen Dutkowsky, 547-7183.  Start up brunch on September 24th.

 

Fellowship

Stephen Ministry: A ministry of visitation, listening, and support by volunteers.  New ministers are welcomed.  A training class started October 25th.  Please contact Anita High (tel. 547-9825).

 

Leatherstocking Ultreya meets quarterly on the 4th Thursdays of June, September (Sep 25), December  and March,  at 6:00 p.m. and normally in the parish hall for potluck supper, singing, witness, prayers and grouping.  In June we will meet at the VanCleefs.  You need not have attended Cursillo to come.  Contact:  Linda VanCleef (tel. 547-8756).

 

Women’s Reunion Groups meet Fridays at 8:00 a.m. at Roxie Hansel’s, 47 Elm Street.  Contact:  Linda VanCleef (tel. 547-8756).

 

Senior Meals All Seniors Over 60! - are invited to the senior meals at Christ Church  on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:45 am.  Contact: Caroline Chronowski, site manager (tel. 547-5909).  Reservations should be made the day before.

 

Parish Players: Plans and performs dramatic events at services and parish functions.  All ages welcome.  Contact:  Diane Elliott (tel. 547-6162).

 

Men’s Ecumenical Fellowship: Dinner and speaker on the third Monday of the month at the Methodist Church.  Contact: the Rev. Sundar Samuel (tel. 547-9540).

 

Outreach

The Lord’s Table serves and cleans up after a dinner for the hungry in Oneonta.  Workers sign up in teams. Contact:  Ron Johnson (tel. 547-2937).  To cook contact: Alton VanCleef (tel. 547-8756).

 

The Cooperstown Food Bank needs volunteers to distribute food to the hungry (10-12, 2-4 Monday-Friday):  Donations of non-perishable items may be made in the basket at the entrance to the church.  Cash donations are also needed.  Contact: Audrey Murray (tel. 547-8089) or Ellen St.John (tel. 547-8902).

 

St. Margaret’s Guild meets 4th Mondays at 7:00 p.m. in the library (Sep 22).  The group’s mission is one of both inreach and outreach through various knitting and needlework projects.  For more information, contact:  Cathe Ellsworth (tel. 547-8124).

 

Rector’s Discretionary Fund assists people in need with financial support for rent, food, gas, prescriptions.  Donations are welcome.  Contact:  The Rev. Sam Abbott, 547-9555.

 

Habitat for Humanity: needs volunteers for building projects in the local community.  No experience necessary.  Contact HOC@verizon.net, Loraine Tyler, 433-4452; main office - Patricia, 432-7874
